What the article failed to mention, (one slight little 'detail'), was that the deposits had government guarantees of Deposit Insurance on them.

And, when the banks blew-up and took all the deposits to Hell, Iceland only paid off on the deposit insurance for the Icelanders... and stiffed all the foreigners. <g>
