Al,

Some links and facts for you. My facts are not wrong.

Deficits and Public Debt
Context: Before 2009, the largest budget deficit recorded since the end of World War II had been 6.0 percent of GDP in 1983. The Bush Administration oversaw budget deficits averaging 3.2 percent of GDP.
The 2009 budget deficit of 9.9 percent of GDP shattered the postwar record. Furthermore, the budget deficit is projected to remain above 5.8 percent of GDP indefinitely.
By 2020, the budget forecasts a $1.9 trillion annual budget deficit, a public debt of 98 percent of GDP, and annual net interest spending surpassing $1 trillion.

Health care is a problem and this fix is going to make it worse. Our corporations are already getting ready for layoffs so they can attempt to compete with China and India. We agree that it is a problem just that the partisan hacks in DC are going to make it worse with this abortion of a bill. No pun intended.

The government is the problem and your being ludicrous with your cliché's. I do not find it cynical in the least when I read the government is sending our employee's on first class junkets overseas at $10K a pop. There many examples of this type of behavior on both sides of the isle.. most notably from Pelosi and her family.

Spending $$'s we do not have is not the answer. The best analogy cam from Gingrich... "We used to pay the mortgage off and leave the farm for the kids. Now we are selling the farm and leaving the mortgage for the kids."

If not the government, then who is going to help provide uniform services for a need on which people's safety depends?

Now your comparing apples and oranges. Our safety and protection, as a nation and individuals, is the responsibility of our government... in part. We bear some responsibility as well.

You went from health care and care for our old and sick {apples} to our safety{oranges}.

This issue will get fixed but not by this group. IMO the bill will move along but never get funded. Then, after the house cleanings in Nov and 2012, a new group can put the issue first and leave their ego's at home.
