have they diversified from oil? How does Emirates rank as a global airline for example? how well does the average citizen live? Quite well I think. Perhaps you are instead thinking of the average imported laborer from India who is building things for the citizens? IIRC, they are careful on who gets citizenship. They like lots of foreign servants however. I know some other countries with similar attitudes in that regard.
