A reconciliation ceremony at a Solomons Islands gold mine preceded an official groundbreaking celebration on Tuesday, to be attended by Prime Minister Derek Sikua.

Australian company Allied Gold told landowners at the Gold Ridge mine in Solomon Islands that is 100 per cent committed to the healing process after ethnic violence that brought the country to a standstill ten years ago.

Hundreds of landowners and dignitaries attended the first major reconciliation ceremony to be held since the mine was shut down.

Allied Gold took ownership of Gold Ridge in October last year.

Executive chairman Mark Caruso said he could not apologise for the actions of past owners of the mine.

But he could promise to honour all his agreements.

"I say to everyone here today, let us talk before we fight - we are 100 percent committed to be part of this healing process."
