On the most optimistic level, maybe this whole thing is a sham, and the U.S. is really helping Israel strike Iran, with this as distraction.

That would mean they worked out an air corridor through Iraq? Naw, while I'd like to see that I don't think it's part of Obama's character. We'll see though. When the Russians finally ship the new AA missiles that Iran has already paid for, Israel will strike, if it's going to JMHO.
