Al,

Some lite reading for you :

Up until 1948 there was no such thing as "Arab" East Jerusalem, Jerusalem was Jerusalem, no east or west. It became divided after the war, in 1949, where the line of "temporary ceasefire" separated two armies. Prior to that Jews lived in all parts of Jerusalem. Liberal anti-semitic media like BBC is trying now to make an impression that Jews (Jewish "settlers") settled in East Jerusalem only after the war of 1967 and therefore they have no right to live in it or to build houses for themselves. Liberal masters of propaganda call this part of Jerusalem "Arab East Jerusalem", trying to present as a fact their conviction that it must belong to Arabs. They are following direction of their long dead mentor that lie repeated many times becomes truth in the minds of ignorant people. There is nothing even close to the truth. Before 1948 Jews represented majority of population in "Arab" East Jerusalem, there were more than 50 Jewish synagogues, the main campus of Hebrew University (the biggest university in Israel), large industrial park, etc. In 1948 all Jews of "East Jerusalem" (without exception) were drove out (or massacred) by Jordanian army. Palestinian arabs occupied their houses, all the synagogues (with one exception, but that has its own story) were deliberately destroyed, Jewish graveyards desecrated (Arabs used gravestones from them to build new roads), etc. Jews were absent from that area for just 19 years. That is all. But "ethnic cleansing" of Jewish population in 1948 reminiscent to the nazi crimes in Europe gave BBC and other liberal outlets of propaganda the opportunity to call true owners of houses and land in East Jerusalem - "illegal settlers" thus justifying genocide and war crimes committed by Arab palestinians: if the entire indigenous population was massacred and expelled then to the interpretation of the "international law" by European and American socialists they have no right to come back and build houses. European socialists are the true descendants of their nazi ancestors.

I could go back to 997 BC but you would only get bored reading about King David
and how he brought the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem and made it his capital. Instead lets skip forward to 1948 :

The divided city
After WWI, Jerusalem, which had been captured by General Allenby’s forces from the Turks, became the administrative capital of the British Mandate. In these times of fervent Arab and Jewish nationalism, the city became a hotbed of political tensions. Jerusalem was always the most sought-after area of the country for both the Arabs and the Jews, and the city was the stage for terrorism and, occasionally, open warfare.

After the British withdrew from Palestine, the UN became responsible for supervising the situation. Its subsequent partition plan was accepted in principle by the Jews, but it was rejected by the Arabs. Jerusalem was to be internationalised, surrounded by independent Arab and Jewish states. In the 1948 Arab-Israeli War the Jordanians took the Old City and East Jerusalem, while the Jews held the New City. Patches of no-man’s-land separated them and the new State of Israel declared its part of Jerusalem as its capital.

For 19 years Jerusalem was a divided city, and Mandelbaum Gate became the official crossing point between East Jerusalem and the New City for the few who were permitted to move between them. The Six Day War in 1967 saw the reunification of the whole of Jerusalem, and the Israelis began a massive program of restoration, refurbishment and landscaping.

Waging war carries consequences Al. The largest issue, for me at least, is the Pal's have never recognized Israel and her right to exist. After getting their collective rear ends beaten in war after war, the Pal's {even if there is such a group} are negotiating for a do over and, for some reason, we do not have a political leader with the nad to stand up and point that out.

Wow what ? How can you justify BO making a BFD {I quote the VP} about 1600 apts when an unstable lunatic is moving forward with his plans to initiate the next holocaust ?
