I drove from Phoenix to Vegas yesterday. They've been doing blasting around Hoover Dam lately, so there have been bodacious delays at times (1-2 hours) on Hwy 93 leading up to the Dam. As a result I considered a detour through Laughlin. Unfortunately the only road from Laughlin to Vegas goes through Searchlight, where the Palin whackos held court yesterday. I said to myself "Self, if you gonna get stuck in traffic, would you rather be surrounded by 10,000 gamblers going to Vegas or 10,000 Palinites going to hell?" I gambled on the gamblers, went over the Dam. No delay at all zipped right through and made the whole Vegas trip in a bit over 5 hours.
All that said, I hope Harry Reid (who they were protesting, Searchlight is his hometown) gets his ass kicked royally in November. He's a douchebag's douchebag.
To make matters worse here, the wicked bitch of the West, Anne Coulter held a rally of some sort. Prolly a great time to be a German oompah-band, the various Nuremberg-style events here shoulda driven the day rates for them through the roof yesterday. On top of it all, Al Gore was in town for a rally with the DemoRatic Senatorial challenger Dina Titus. I swear, if any place in the country is first in line to be smitten by a vengeful God, it's gotta be Vegas (hopefully not this weekend, but I'm sure the various events here are tempting Him mightily....<G?> |
