First off, I am NOT intelligent, just a little less confused than most. There are students I study with that put me to shame, and one of them is a high school senior. This kid is quite likely the most intelligent person I have ever talked with. He could end up being the next Einstein.
Secondly, what is wrong with calling people who say global warming isn't happening "global warming deniers"? Seems like an appropriate term to me.
Thirdly, your argument about the planet being around for a long time (~ 14.5 billion years) is correct, but so what? Global warming has definitely occurred in the past but, again, so what? You really don't appear to be saying anything relevant. In fact, I have no idea what your point was with those statements.
My viewpoint is that, based on ALL the current information, it is happening, but if I can be shown that it isn't then my viewpoint will change. In that respect I am a scientist. It also gives me an advantage. If I am wrong I get to admit it, become a more informed person, and move on. Unlike some people I am not "married" to my positions so I don't have to ignore contradictory facts.
Global Warming is either happening or it's not. If someone says it's not, then they should be able to explain something as simple as a massive ice shelf disappearing, and rising ocean levels. if they can't then what they have is nothing more than a very poorly thought out belief. If a person wants to debate, they should do their homework. If they don't then they just waste everyone's time and end up looking like a fool.
The above is regarding global warming but it extends to almost any subject, including politics, religion, health care, whatever. Most people accept someone else's beliefs as facts, without doing any research of their own. |
