Brumar, you know as well as everyone on this thread that the GOP plan was to propose as many new amendments as possible, hoping that one would stick, so that they could get the Senate version to differ from the House version. That would mean the Senate version would have to go back to the House for a revote, which could mean more delays. It was yet another stall tactic and they laid out their strategy for us, before they did it.

This viagra amendment was one the GOP thought was particularly clever. Their goal was to provide an amendment on an issue that was very distasteful in the hopes the Dems would have no choice to pass it. It was a win win for the GOP. if the Dems passed it, then they'd have to go back to the House and renegotiate and possible delay the bill further. Or if they didn't pass it, then the GOP would claim the Dems were immoral.

Nice bit of politicking there, but it didn't fool anyone. We all know that these are exactly the kind of despicable games the GOP always plays. That's why the media isn't really picking this story up. No one is interested in clever GOP tricks, especially when 30 million Americans still don't have health insurance and are looking for solutions.
