Fairchild Technologies Introduces New Family of Optical Disc Manufacturing Solutions at Hong Kong Show
FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--November 5, 1997--
CONVAC Products are Adaptable to a Wide Range of Optical Disc Formats
Fairchild Technologies, a wholly owned operating unit of The Fairchild Corporation (NYSE:FA), today unveiled a new line of optical disc manufacturing systems at the REPLItech Asia trade show in Hong Kong. Designed to grow with the changing needs of disc replicators, the Fairchild Technologies products are upgradable from compact disc (CD) to digital versatile disc (DVD), and from recordable compact disc (CD-R) to recordable digital versatile disc (DVD-R), from two basic platforms.
Being shown for the first time is the 8800 line of equipment, the most flexible CD replication line on the market. The 8800S Single Line system features a cycle time as short as 2.8 seconds with an upgraded metallizer, and is compatible with most molding machines, metallizers and quality inspection systems specified by customer requirements. The 8800S may be upgraded to either an 8800T Twin Line system for CDs, a fully automated model with a very fast 2.0-second cycle time, or to an 8800D replication system for DVD production, available in either Single Line (8800DS) or Twin Line (8800DT) configuration. Fairchild Technologies rounds out its CD product offerings with the 3600 CD replication line, a low-cost entry-level system.
The second line of Fairchild Technologies' production solutions is built around the Company's CD-R system, a proven workhorse for CD-R replication that features state-of-the-art disc transport and handling equipment to maximize profitability while minimizing required factory floor space. The CD-R is upgradable to the Company's newly introduced DVD-R, single recordable DVD production system. With the CD-R, replicators who are presently producing CD-R format discs can move into the next era of DVD-R production, without making a major capital investment.
All of the Company's CONVAC products feature a proprietary coating process that increases production yields, and an integrated, controlled "mini-environment" that reduces exposure to temperature and humidity variations. Fairchild Technologies also provides factory service and support for all the Company's optical disc manufacturing systems.
"For nearly 20 years, the CONVAC name has stood for quality and innovation in the optical disc equipment industry," said William T. Liggett, president of Fairchild Technologies Optical Disc Equipment Group division. "Now, with the strength and resources of The Fairchild Corporation behind us, we look forward to our emerging role as a global leader in the optical disc business."
Fairchild Technologies operates worldwide, with manufacturing, sales, distribution or customer service facilities in Europe, Japan, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the U.S. The Company designs and manufactures leading-edge equipment for the optical disc and semiconductor manufacturing industries. Fairchild Technologies' broad range of products includes a full line of state-of-the-art optical disc manufacturing equipment, as well as high-performance microlithography wafer tracks and low-K dielectric processing equipment for semiconductor manufacturing.
