I was just posting my plans on the Electric Car thread. Here's what I'm going to do. I have two really old cars that I haven't replaced because I was waiting to go all electric. But every year we go on a long trip to Texas to visit family and it's more convenient to drive than fly. So I will need to buy one GM Volt. But then for the other car, I can buy the Nissan Leaf, because I never drive more than 50 miles in any day, so the 100 mile range will be more than what I need.

Anyway, we're committed to doing this. Now it's just a matter of time. I'm hoping to buy both cars in the next 2 years. Probably the Leaf next year and then the Volt the following year.

I still plan on keeping my SUV, though. It has 125K miles, but I'll need it for those trips to Home Depot or to tow around our boat to the lakehouse. The good news is that I won't need to drive it but a few times per year. So all electric, here we come!

Very exciting times! Plus, I will be able to say that I don't contribute money to terrorists in the Middle East. That will be a good feeling. :) I really think this time the US has a fighting chance to dramatically reduce our gasoline and oil consumption with these new technologies. Now if we can keep Obama and the Dems in power long enough to let them continue the favorable treatment towards this technology, it will increase the odds considerably that this country will get to oil independence, which as you know is my greatest, most fervent dream for this country.
