What alternate framework?

Read much?

Talk about inert meaningless window dressing..

Of course, you'd look at it that way. But it's structural change. Don't forget getting employers out of the health care business. That's pretty structural, too. Many useful structural changes weren't even offered because they would have been DOA much as Obama didn't propose single-payer. You can't judge what wasn't proposed because it would have been pointless to propose it.

When the plan called for best of breed care panels, they became death panels.

They may have been demonized but they are still in the legislation, aren't they. Can't blame removing them on the conservatives.

We have what we have, and have not what we should, because of conservative opposition...mostly on the GOP side, but not exclusively.

You could look at it that way. Or you could look at is us not having what we should because liberals proposed what we have. What we have is a third way because neither of the other two was feasible.
