In my heart of hearts I am what I would consider a pragmatic libertarian. I think the goal should be to maximize individual liberty, limit the role of the federal government, have sound and backed money, and make any socialization of risk a state matter that is voluntary.
That's not a perfect model, but it's vastly superior to what we have now.
However, I am beginning to consider the possibility that even though free markets, a small federal government, sound money and strong states rights are the best we can do, I may be just as delusional as the left, just for different reasons.
The left is a disaster because it is economically retarded, does not understand human nature, and often promotes immoral and intrinsically evil ideas and behavior as a matter of protecting freedoms instead of just defending the freedoms and educating people on the morality etc....
In my case the delusion may be the result of having too high a set of expectations for humanity. We may never achieve the promised land because most people are too fucking stupid to understand matters of economics, money, freedom, morality etc... There will always be evil people looking to expand their own personal wealth and political power at their (and our) expense.
Perhaps every society needs a violent dictator every 50-100 years to take out the trash (and by this I don't mean those without any power), take the historical hit, but do us all a favor. Otherwise the left dooms us all to permanent hell instead of a few years of hell getting rid of them.
