I'd want my doc and my respiratory therapist and my nurse to be highly trained and well paid professionals.

The secret to lowering medical costs is transparency and competition. If I need an operation, am I going to call around for the lowest price? Of course not. If I want to buy something other than a medical exam or procedure, competitive pressure keeps everybody's price down. Right now, and probably forever, this does not happen in medicine. In fact, it's illegal. Hospitals, Doctors and Dentists can't advertise price. This will never be changed. Too bad.
