bentway, I understand your concern and desire for fairness, with Israel being the only nuclear power in the region.

However, there is this. The last time I checked, the Israelis are ideologically aligned with the US, and therefore, are natural allies. Also, the last time I checked, it was Muslims that attacked our country and killed 3,000 innocent Americans. Their ideology is most strikingly unlike ours.

Ahmadenijad and Khomenie are nut jobs. I don't want to live in a world where those two madmen have access to nuclear bombs. I would support either an Israeli or US strike against Iran before they got the bomb. However, the US isn't in a good position to do it. So we're going to need Israel as a proxy to get it done. We need to remember that.

I wish we didn't need to care about the Middle East because of their oil. However, even if we were oil independent, 9/11 argues for us to ensure those fanatics never get the bomb. Maybe once we reach oil independence and we stop stoking fear and hatred of Americans in that region...maybe they will stop being a threat to us. But in the next 50 years, before that happens, we have to prevent WMD from getting into their hands. Overall, we should always look for ways to reduce WMD in the world, not allow proliferation in the interests of fairness and balance.
