I used to get a little water in the basement every year during the melt or when a heavy rain came from a certain direction. Not much, the shop vac handled it.

Wife wanted to redo the landscaping, typical Midwest rock over visqueen thing with new bushes. I bought ice dam roof protection which is heavy rubber covered with asphalt to use instead of visqueen. No weeds get through it and it won't break down while I'm alive and the wetness is 4' from my basement walls.
