Wrong, one does not have to fully understand the OT to have faith or be saved. Look at the Apostle Paul's preaching on Mars hill.

Example: Christ's sacrifice obviates the need for the animal sacrifices under the OT. Understanding the OT scarifices helps to understand Christ's, but such an understanding is simply not necessary to be saved.
