ÿÿÿÿNEC Technologies, a pioneer and world leader in the development, marketing and implementation of Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) technology for law enforcement, today announced a $3 million contract with the Indiana State Police and Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC). The NEC AFIS21 system replaces the state's current Printrak International AFIS system in order to provide the most advanced fingerprint technology to identify and apprehend criminals.

ÿÿÿÿIndiana's NEC AFIS21 system will streamline record keeping, increase efficiency and improve crime fighting by ensuring accurate offender processing to the proper DOC inmate records, identifying subjects referenced in criminal records and comparing crime scene fingerprints of unknown origin with identified fingerprints in file. The system features Automatic Classification and Pre-Selection (AC/PS), the first fully automated workflow process that executes fingerprint matching and registration without human intervention. AC/PS automatically narrows searches based on distinct demographic and fingerprint characteristics, saving valuable time while increasing identification accuracy.
ÿÿÿÿThe NEC AFIS21 system will include a central database at the Indiana State Police Records Division serving as the central repository for arrest, disposition and custody/supervision data. More than 2 million tenprint and latent fingerprint images will be classified and stored electronically with their associated demographic data, such as crime code and criminal record. The database will be accessed throughout the state from remote sites that include four latent sites, nine live scan locations and three Department of Corrections mug shot/live scan locations.
