One thing I've noticed is that the GOP and members on these threads who are typically associated with the GOP are fighting tooth and nail to not be associated with the Tea Party.

Not me. Well technically I'm not really associated with either, I've never been to one of the protests, or helped organize anything for them, and I'm just registered to vote, not as a member of a party. But that nod to technical accuracy aside, I have a somewhat favorable opinion of the tea partiers, and I feel somewhat associated with the Republican party, in fact I've never voted for a Democrat that I can remember (although once before I was old enough to vote, I supported a Democratic candidate, passing out some flyers of sample ballots or something)

To the extent I feel I'm a member of either, I don't mind the other being associated with me. Both are ok to be associated with. I just care about accurately relating the facts.

And to the extent I have any reason beyond just the quest for accuracy to dissociate the two, its not to avoid associating the Republicans with the tea partiers but the other way around. Many Republicans are big government types. The Dems deserve to be slaughtered in the next elections, but the Republicans don't really deserve a win very much. If they where more in tune with a lot of the message comming from the tea partiers they would deserve the win more than they do now.
