Just this AM I was marveling at the immense diversity of beliefs that human beings are capable of espousing. People build their entire existences around a set of core beliefs that cover an extraordinarily broad, frequently conflicting, range. I was wondering why it was that I placed so much value on personal responsibility, when it seems that the irresponsible are just laughing as they rip off guys like me thanks to Bailout Nation. I have other extreme beliefs as well; I'm a nutrition and exercise fanatic, but at least I still think that those work to my personal advantage (although it certainly added to the strain with my ex). I'm also a conservationist, tree-hugging nut - I'm making a conscious effort to adopt more city hobbies to cut back on the number of trips out of town in the Prius, I cycle to work every day rain or shine "religiously," buy my foods bulk to eliminate packaging (and save $), and I actually pre-soak my beans and pasta to conserve energy. Most people don't even devote two synapses to such minutiae. I think it's just some obsessive-compulsive gene from both of my parents. Why me...
