Iceland doesn't owe anybody a thin dime. When Landbanki collapsed, nobody had Deposit insurance. The Parliment of Iceland interfered in the free market and reimbursed Icelandic depositors, and the Govt'f financial regulation arm took over the failed bank. What should have happened is the bank is liquidated and the depositors and other creditors receive a fraction if anything on the sale of it's assets. Depositors/creditors in the UK and Netherlands aren't entitled to a dime and if the Governments of the UK and Netherlands want to also interfere in the free market, which they did, they insured UK and Dutch depositors. The taxpayer of Iceland doesn't owe a dime. The UK and Netherlands claim that deposit insurance is some how guaranteed by the European Economic Area (EEA) Treaty. Bullshit claim. The EEA is so vague there is no way it provides some kind of deposit insurance to the EU.
