"You could say if FDR had never been elected, but Hoover had won we woul dnever have had the New Deal or social security or strengthening of unions."

YAY! YAY!

If we'd never had the FDR obligations, we would not be facing economic collapse now.

What else would have been different? Families would have been the only support for old people -- they would not be dumped in Medicare nursing homes. Younger people would have been less free to walk away from their families and the attendant obligations thereof.

We would have never had imperial presidents who governed by decree.

Unions would have died, except where workers had strong needs for reform, for example, in coal mining. There would have been no unions of replaceable unskilled clerical workers, garbage collectors, retail clerks, or other bottom-rung employees.

If there were no AFSCME nor SEIU employees, would there be any union employees left at all? No! And why not? Because workers with skills prefer to be compensated on the basis of performance, and not averaged in with a group of marginals.

Koan, I'm so glad you've seen the light!

YAY! YAY!
