Um, isn't that called having a laptop and a desktop? Lots of people have done that for at least a decade.

For the last eight years or so, I've just bought the lightest high-functioning laptop I can and gotten a docking station for it.

Right now, I have a 2 1/4 pound laptop and two 24" screens at the office to go with it. Expensive, but works well.
