Forget about the environment. The need to be oil independent is more than evident from the rapidly approaching $2 trillion wars we've been fighting in the Middle East as a direct result of our oil addiction. If the only thing you care about is the economy, then you should be all for oil independence.

And with today's technology, you don't need to sacrifice a thing. I know you guys like to talk about having to drive golf carts and live in caves, but that's just fear talking. The technology I've seen that's right around the corner is every bit as good as carbon technology and in most cases far better. You guys are just experiencing fear and inertia. But America wasn't built on fear and inertia. It was built on embracing change and moving on to better things even as the rest of the world was slow to follow.
