I would say the centerpoint of the tea party movement is probably far more pragmatic than Obamacare, or those who oppose reducing the growth of entitlement spending.

Not that close, but all this extra spending makes it more likely.

The US spends 8 times the nearest higher country

In terms of its defense budget. But China hides the renminbi it spends on defense in other budgets much more than the US does, and it also spends in areas that are not even part of the government budget at all (such as the profits of corporations owned by the PLA). Then it also spends in non-currency terms by drafting its people.

We still spend a lot more, but not 8 times as much.
