"The Crucible" is based on fact. The play and the movie have stuck in my mind since I first read the play in 1965.

I cited "The Crucible" in a paper I wrote on Forest Policy for a class I was taking in Forestry School.

My theme was that the mystique of the dark forest as depicted in the play was relevant in modern forest policy, especially in wilderness advocacy.

I doubt anybody else has done that before or since.

Most people think the play is a reaction to the McCarthy Era red scare.

I saw Indians smash my dear parents' heads on the pillow next to mine and I have seen some reddish work done at night, and I can make you wish you had never seen the sun go down! Abigail
