"Thanks Ernie. I give Diamond Multimedia a lot of slack for
problems they had with Windows 95. All Microsoft has to do
is change one bit (not a byte, a bit) off their specification,
and boom, vendors all over the world can miss a very big boat."

"I strongly suspect that DIMD couldn't completely
meet its Windows 95 technical specifications because Microsoft
couldn't meet its Windows 95 technical specifications."

It's interesting to note that companies like Hercules, ATI, and
Number Nine were not similarly impaired in providing Win 95
drivers for their Windows accelerators on or before the Win 95
release date. Diamond Multimedia is one of the few companies
that STILL has not managed to exorcise the remaining bugs from
its Win 95 drivers more than a year after the Win 95 release date.

Diamond operates in a competitive environment in which driver
support can make or break a given product. Diamond's failure
to provide stable Win 95 drivers for its multimedia and video
accelerators is well documented in industry publications.

Improvements in the driver development process, instead of
lame excuses, might have the effect of improving the fortunes
of Diamond Multimedia. I've heard nothing to suggest that the
driver development process has changed. The Win 95 drivers
included with new products have not shown a greater degree
of stability than the bug-ridden Win 95 drivers included with
older Diamond video cards.
