Well, there is "abuse" and "abuse"... young children are MUCH MORE RECEPTIVE TO their surroundings. I don't think it's as powerful as physical abuse, BUT one could also consider teaching children that god will burn them in hell if they eat meat on Friday, talk back to the nun, masturbate, have "hateful" thoughs, etc. etc. child abuse, sure.
Further, in centuries past dogma was very serious... NOT seeing the priest for confession precluded purity, you COULDNT GET TO GOD EXCEPT THROUGH THE PRIEST... techically, that continues till today.
It's "spiritual rape" by ANY measure!!

The church has "evolved" past many of those things thankfully... so I certainly don't consider my kids religious teachings abuse. But Dawkins is old... he may know very well what was done in the olden days... everyone seems to be... but YOU.
