You have it exactly right.

x% of all people are pedophiles or heterosexuals/homosexuals that will use their position of power to take advantage of children or teenagers.

Some of those people make their way into every public and religious institution and wind up committing either criminal or immoral acts. The stats indicate they make it into all institutions at fairly similar rates.

When faced with cases like that, y% of all people in power do foolish things because they are ignorant, terribly irresponsible, make grave errors in judgment, or have their priorities badly screwed up etc...

The idea is to prosecute those INDIVIDUALS that broke any laws and remove the others from a position of power/decision making.

Going forward the idea is to implement procedures that reduce the potential for recruiting people like that and to virtually eliminate any chance of cases being handled improperly again.

The idea is not to destroy an entire institution for the actions of a very few within it.

IMHO, those that attack or attempt to destroy entire institutions based on the actions of a few within it are almost always driven by hate, politics etc... and are generally despicable human beings themselves. That goes double when they demonstrate extreme hypocrisy by leaving other institutions guilty of similar atrocities alone.

All this goes double when they refuse to discuss facts and used biased and spun journalism to achieve their political goals.
