Revenge wouldn't make my decision any more correct. My father was shot by a man, but I still don't approve of the death penalty. Revenge is never a good driver of decision making. I have rational reasons for what I believe, and the deaths of my family members should not enter the calculation. If they do, I'm just verging off in to eye for an eye territory. And in that land, I agree with Gandhi, it just makes the whole world blind.
