McDonnell apologized for the omission, but when host Candy Crowley asked Barbour if he thought failing to mention slavery in the Virginia proclamation was a mistake, Barbour replied, "I don't think so." He pointed out that Mississippi's Democratic legislature has also approved measures commemorating Confederate history.

This is really a ridiculous excuse for bashing the Rs. The Civil War is part of our history and heritage. We should no more throw that out than we should Washington or Jefferson or any of the other slave drivers who were important to our history.

OTOH, I have a fairly difficult time looking past Jefferson's hypocrisy in owning slaves.
