Evil is tied to will. If we consider evil to be the intentional and willful contradiction or opposition to goodness, then we can define both evil and goodness in the context of some well meaning or beneficent phenomenon. At the very least you have to prove the intent to cause harm, while the harmful person expects to benefit only in some ignoble fashion as essential for a definition of evil to be tied to will.

The role of a partisan politician is to support the party platform not to resist it. They are also expected to resist the opposition to the party platform. Personally, I think it is reaching to define either party platform as evil, or fundamentally good.

I think of goodness as 'well being' and evil as the willful corruption of well being, assuming some insidious motive. That glove probably fits any extremist, regardless of political persuasion. Even though I encourage people to take a stand against extremism, branding everyone who doesn't stand up to extremists as evil is uncalled for, IMO.
