Orwellian collapse due to Randian reasons?... :)

We moved some months ago, and setting things up is a nightmare. Just one example - ATT sold us a package of DSL, satellite TV and a land phone line. TV came from Direct TV, and the price was quite different from the one advertised... but that's OK. DSL in the end proved to be altogether unavailable. When I called, ATT offered to sell me their wireless access. I kept explaining that I'm holding in my hand an IPhone, and that there is NO signal in the house... but the girl said that according to her computer there is excellent service, and asked for my credit card. (An independent web site confirmed that there was NO ATT service in the area).

I checked out the satellite internet providers. There were two. One of them I decided against - because they had a monthly limit on the bandwidth I could use. I signed up with Hughes - because they made no mention of any limits. It turned out that they did have one - a DAILY limit. Every time I run over the limit, it costs $7.50 to "reset".

Pain in the butt. And I didn't even get to more serious things, like taxes.
