Well, I think what you and I have are differences in semantics and optimism more than differences in ultimate opinion. Here's where we agree:
* we need to be good stewards of this planet
* we need to find a way for humans to live on other planets

Where we'll probably never agree is in your desire for humans on this earth to have laws around how many kids we should have. I know I'd fight tooth and nail against that kind of government control over my kids natural right to reproduce. For me personally, it's a non issue. I'm done reproducing, but I want my kids to have freedom of choosing how many kids they can have.

I don't dispute that over population will become a problem in our lifetimes nor that it has already become a problem in some areas of the world. However, I think we just need to find other solutions to those problems rather than curbs on reproduction.
