Scott, I won't "bite" on this one but you do deserve a response. I was not ignoring your post and questions. I was trying very hard to read between the lines. I find that some posts have to be read this way or we can easily look like fools.

"the direct challenge before him is how to get reasonably sized piece of the Microsoft Suite pie."

No the direct challenge is to concentrate on "Core Competency" and make some money. Scale down?

He tried very hard to get a chunk of the pie and look at the share price because of the effort. Whether it was actual spending, hype or bad luck, he could not. I think the spending millions to bring down the "Goliath" was a risk we all took. Admit this: The stock seemed a good risk investment considering some 1)Anti-Microslop support 2)Java "the new way" not Microslop Monopoly 3)WP is better than Word 4)Cowplands personality and past sucess. I figured that an alliance of the competition could bring Microslop down.

Now we face the reality of a company with a dwindling customer base and lower revenues with no sure bet killer applications
"How can Dr. Cowpland use his talents to reverse the trend? Can it be done?"

There is no way for Dr. Feelgood to reverse the trend. There is not enough money to do this. Java and is promise to break the Microslop monopoly is the only hope. Let other companies shareholders bear the cost of developing the technology. Once the platform is in widespread use, then develope WP & Draw in Java. Concentrate on taking its mainline core Windows products and make them the best. Sell them at a premium. There will always be people who will not buy Microslop unless they have to.

"Don't you think a talented individual like Dr. Cowpland can navigate a course toward that end?"

Our balloon has "burst" in the attempt. If it would have worked, then we would have been happy puppies. Because it did not we are "Pissed Off" shareholders looking to gripe and complain.

Give Mike a couple of Billion bucks and he could buy market share.

No. Mike is a great "starter up'r". Not so good with PR and Management. He should have led Corel Computer. Not to take away from Eid Eid, but Cowpland is a natural for this type of development.
