It makes a lot of sense. Those who aren't left or right aren't always middle, often they are "nothing" in terms of having a coherent set of political ideas that fits on the left-right spectrum.

Also I'd add in many ways the left-right spectrum is a pretty poor way of representing political opinion. The middle on it is vague and somewhat subjective, and perhaps more importantly doesn't necessarily represent any really meaningful middle.
