In principle I like means testing more and more benefits from the government.

In practice I don't like the way it can cause very large portions of the marginal dollar earned to go back to the government. In the right circumstances, progressive taxation combined with phase out of benefits and subsidies can mean that you actually are worse off by making a little extra money. That's not the norm, but even taking 60 to 80 percent of your next dollar harms the normal incentive people would have to produce and earn more.
