Social Securitry and Medicare are not like price supports. People pay specific taxes for each with the promise of benefits in the future. That's not the same thing as a government distribution budgeted out of the general fund. It may not be different enough to suit you but it is different in terms of a "contract." It is generally understood that people plan their retirements around promised SS and Medicare benefits. Companies design their retirements and health care for retirees as adjuncts with the blessing of the feds. Not the same thing, IMO.
