Get a grip folks. Bowing is just a more hygienic way of shaking hands. In Japan, bowing is an art form with depths of bow, seniority and all sorts of aspects.

With H5N1 and other diseases lurking, it might yet become highly popular. Fist bumping is too ghetto-like for my liking as is high-fiving, though I felt I should be well-mannered and did a high five in response to somebody offering one a few months ago [I think that might have been my first effort at it]. I also prefer a regular hand shake rather than a complex bunch of moves or the Indian arm wrestle variety.

So Obama bows to some people. Big deal. Have you checked the angle of his toes when bowing? Now THAT you can really make a case about, but nobody seems to give it the attention it deserves. Keep an eye on your own toe angles too!! You don't want to appear crass. It's easy to do if you bow while greeting so you can check your toe angles [which is really what Obama is doing].

It's also a good judo move to bow like that. While Obama bows and shakes Putin's hand, Putin won't know whether there is a throw coming or not. It's disarming!! Putin's right arm will be held by Obama's right, but note that Obama is left-handed, so he'll be able to effect a throw really easily with Putin right off balance, not expecting it, and disarmed.
