We just had 6 years of the Republicans controlling Congress and they were pork barrel PIGS, so don't tell me that ONLY Democrats spend money they don't have.

I think deficits are the MOST important thing to the future of the U.S. If we don't stop running up debt we won't be able to afford a military. Our dollar will continue to lose value which will depreciate our standard of living.

The reason we had an economic run in the 1980's was because we started from such a LOW base, with interest rates set by Volcker with the "intent" to crush ALL the excess out of the economy. After all the inflation and excesses were wrung out there was no place to go but UP... Then you add in Reagan's massive DEFICIT spending and that perked things up even more. The tax cuts were just peripheral to all that.

The ONLY reason I consider Reagan such a lousy president is that he set a precedent for every Republican since then. Republicans STILL raise taxes, but now they do it surrepticiously through FEES and LICENSES and LOTTERIES and any other tax they can think up that raises money but ONLY regressively.
