Company Press Release

Rentech, Inc. Undertakes Fuel Cells Study

DENVER, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentech, Inc. (Nasdaq:RNTK), today announced that it is
undertaking a study with technical support from ITN Energy Systems, Inc., a private corporation, to
evaluate the co-locating of plants utilizing the Company's proprietary and patented Gas-to-Liquids
(GTL) technology to support the implementation of fuel cells for the production of stationary power.
Primary end products of the Company's GTL process are naphthas, a clean-burning diesel fuel and
high-grade industrial waxes. However, a key byproduct of the Rentech technology is hydrogen,
which with a source of oxygen from either air or from an oxygen plant, can provide the necessary
fuel for successful operation of fuel cells.

Fuel cells produce power by reacting hydrogen and oxygen electrochemically with no harmful
emissions such as carbon dioxide or oxides of nitrogen. Fuel cells, ''a technology which helped to
put a man on the moon by providing electricity and water,'' is a fast changing technology stated the
''Economist'' on October 25, 1997. Because fuel cells react on an electrochemical basis instead of
combustion they produce no greenhouse gases and are very environmentally beneficial. While fuel
cells are not currently economical, significant efforts are now being undertaken by third parties to
rapidly bring this technology to the market.

One of the major difficulties in fuel cell technology is finding a source of readily available hydrogen.
The Rentech process would be an ideal source of hydrogen for a stationary power fuel cell system
associated with a petroleum refining unit implementing the Rentech GTL technology.

Mr. Dennis L. Yakobson, President and CEO of Rentech stated that ''Rentech believes that
utilization of its gas conversion technology will allow it to be a contributor to the emerging field of fuel
cell technology.''
