Raimondas & Still Learning:

I would urge caution toward approaching KLIC as anything but a cyclical short term play. Wire bonders are a mature technology that will begin to disappear starting in 1999 with the advent of flip chips and Tessera's chip scale packaging. You will see a palpable move by Intel away from wire bonders by end 1998 or beginning 1999. It does no good to have a monopoly in buggywhips! KLIC is seeking to diversify by breaking into new markets such as consumables and a chip bumping fab jv w/ Delco. But it may not be easy. I also don't like KLIC's policy of allowing Montgomery customers only access to important info such as their 5 point survival plan. It is just not fair.

That said, I think KLIC is oversold short-term.
