The way to maximize profit in an era of stagnation is to buy and hold the major indices, especially commodity funds (for 18 months during cyclical bull snapbacks) and load up on TLT (if you are a conservative investor for 18 months during secular downturns).

During an era of prosperity (1982-2000), one should just buy and hold and add to positions on all dips.
