I suspect that it might be a ploy to get more information about the quality of their currently paying mortgages. Curiously, I was never asked about my current income or net worth as part of this preliminary Q & A. All citi seemed to be interested in was the current Loans/Value of the property, as in what happens if the borrower walks away and hands over the keys.
