I hope you are right, but Bush Jr and Cheney gave me a very different impression. In fact, I'd say that the current manifestation of the GOP is even more radical than Cheney. Hell, the Tea Party is trying to form militias, for God's sake. Who do the GOP want to attack next, our own government? What radicals.
