They spent $13 million in Juneau renovating the federal building in order to remove asbestos. They created a swing floor, and each floor took their turn in it while the contractors worked.

Since it was asbestos removal, they deep cleaned the stairwells every day (I think) and had sensors to monitor contaminants. The building pressure was monitored and controlled so as to retard asbestos migration.

It was pretty nice when they got done, which took five years, two more than scheduled.

It seems like that class they're charging you for should be provided free, since it's required by law to take it. Anyway, it will be money well spent in the end.

But you're right. It is a tax.
