The DOD once wanted to send me to Iran and they made up a diplomatic passport for me. I asked, "Isn't the Shah in some kind of trouble?" I was told not to worry, nobody messes with a U.S. diplomatic passport. Well, I got volunteered into a job in Belgium instead. One of my buddies went (not for my job, as he got his earlier) with a wife and young daughter. They did o.k. for 4 years and came back to America with moolah and promotions in hand. A couple of years later the Ayatollah returned and a diplomatic passport was worthless.

But they are usually great.
