You are correct that you don't register for a party in Texas, and he didn't -- he had not registered to vote at all in Austin.

Could be the "registered" was a rumor. No doubt, if you read what he wrote, he was a Democrat -- an Obama supporter even.

Of course, that almost goes without saying in Austin (not bashing it, I used to love Austin when I was younger).
