You need to go to any folder, and inside that folder, right click, and set the view you want all your folders to be(list). then in that same folder, on the toolbar, click tools<Folder Options<View<Folder Views. Select Apply to all folder views.

Click OK. Now all the folders will be set to the current folder options.

Note: If you can't see the tools tab, then it will be hidden behind either the address bar, or something else, there should be two arrows facing right straight after the words "File" click this to get the drop down list of commands where the "tools" tab should be located.
