Regarding "racial slurs" at the WDC Tea Party rally.

After sending 3 emails, and making two phone calls, I just now finally reached the NPR Ombudsman, Alicia Shepard. I had a nice chat with her and vented my frustration at the report that some members of the Tea Party had directed racial epithets at members of the CBC.

She understood my frustration and said she'd received several calls about the report. She told me that NPR posted an article that clarified and included words to the effect that there is doubt it happened at all.

I asked her to please send me the clarification and this is what I got.

This is the only place in the whole article that even mentions the supposed event.

If this is their "clarification", I am not impressed.

But amid growing reports of threats against House members and last weekend's Tea Party ugliness in Washington, D.C. -- where some Democrats said some activists lobbed racist and anti-gay epithets at them on their way to vote on health care legislation -- the gathering has taken on a larger significance.
